What is employer Contribution Matching?

Many companies set aside funds each year to match contributions their employees make to qualified non-profit organizations. Most often the companies match contributions dollar for dollar but matches can vary. Check your company’s human resources department for matching guidelines. Employer matching gifts increase the impact of your financial support and mean more resources for The Pete Foundation to fulfill our mission.

What do I need to do to get my contribution matched?

The employee must initiate the matching contribution process. This usually means contacting your employer to obtain the proper form, completing the form, and mailing it to The Pete Foundation. The Pete Foundation verifies that the contribution was received and that it qualifies for a match. The Pete Foundation then sends the form to your employer for verification. If all of your company’s matching gift guidelines are met, they will issue the matching funds to The Pete Foundation.

How can I verify to my company that The Pete Foundation can receive charitable contributions?

The Pete Foundation is a not-for-profit organization recognized as tax-exempt under Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3). The Pete Foundation Employer Identification Number (EIN) (i.e. Federal Tax Identification Number), is 81-4667398.

After I submit the matching gift form, will all my future contributions be matched too?

No. Unfortunately this is a common misconception. You must submit a matching gift form with each contribution that you make to The Pete Foundation. Some donors request several forms at once and then just send one with each donation they make.

Are there restrictions on matching contributions?

Most companies require a minimum contribution to qualify for a match.

Must I be a full-time active employee to have my contributions matched?

Not necessarily. Most companies match gifts from part-time employees and retirees, too. Some companies also match gifts from spouses, annuitants, and directors.

Is there a time limit on eligibility to get my contribution to The Pete Foundation matched?

Companies do require that The Pete Foundation completes and returns the form within a set time period–usually within 90 days–sometimes within the same calendar year. We recommend that you submit your form to The Pete Foundation at the same time you make your contribution or shortly after.
